Comparative Study on Compartmentalized vs. Non-Compartmentalized Plants
Abstract
Plants play a role in influencing carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the atmosphere through photosynthesis and respiration. Dypsis lutescens is known as outdoor and indoor ornamental plant. Previous studies have discussed plants in compartments, which simulate indoor conditions, and plants without compartments, which simulate outdoor conditions. However, direct comparisons between the two conditions have not been widely conducted. This comparative study is important to obtain baseline data on carbon dioxide and oxygen concentrations affected by plants that do not receive any treatment so that it can provide a choice of methods in gas dynamics studies in stressed plants. Therefore, this study aims to compare the carbon dioxide and oxygen dynamics profiles in palm plants placed in compartments and those that are not. The results showed that compartments caused an increase in carbon dioxide concentration and a consistent decrease in oxygen. Carbon dioxide in the compartment was recorded as significantly higher than conditions without compartments. Abiotic factors that influence this phenomenon are relative humidity and temperature.
